How Does Your Garden Grow?
A Country Garden - Diana Cummings
I love to paint gardens. Obviously - as seen above. I also love to plant them, both flower and edible gardens. There is something to be said about the satisfaction of planting a seed and then cultivating it into something beautiful or yummy. I am starting to prepare for this years gardens, but I am running out of space and I came across an awesome article in Sunset Magazine about how to garden anywhere. I couldn't believe their creative ideas for space use and lots of them use salvaged or re-purposed items. Here are my favorite three ideas:
Salvaged Shutters
Twin shutters, each about 8 feet tall, bring a roomlike appeal to designer Baylor Chapman’s San Francisco deck. Tiny succulent rosettes peek out from openings between the slats.
To hold the rootballs in place, Chapman (lilabdesign.com) stapled weed-cloth pockets behind each shutter.

In a Frame
Instead of framing a picture, why not a whole garden? Here, cuttings of assorted succulents knit together to create colorful, textural living tapestries.

In a Chair
This plant stand was once a chair.
The project is easy to complete: Simply remove the seat, find a pot that fits, and paint the frame a bright, fun color.
